My experience renting a car was great because the process was smooth and efficient, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the car itself was clean, reliable, and exactly what I needed. Having clear communication and no hidden fees also made the experience stress-free and enjoyable.

Renting a car from the Budget office at Birmingham Airport turned into a bit of a saga. When I arrived, they tried to push me from my booked ID3 to an Alfa for an extra £20. I declined, but they offered it for £14, so I agreed. Later, I found I was charged £19.54 due to "taxes" that they hadn’t mentioned. After some back-and-forth, they agreed to refund it immediately if I stuck with the ID3, which took ages to sort out. Once I got the keys, I saw the car had a dodgy tire and scuffed alloy. After more waiting, I was finally given an Alfa, but it didn’t have a charging cable. Another wait ensued to sort that. In the end, I was delayed by an hour and a half, and there was no apology. Returning the car was just as annoying, with no receipt emailed until I chased it up. Overall, it was a headache, and despite addressing it with customer service, I only got a generic response.

Picked up what I thought would be a Ford Focus at Belfast International, but got handed a Nissan Juke instead. Not quite what I expected. First time in a Juke, and let’s just say it was a bit of a shocker. The horn was dead, which led to a couple of close calls—once when a car nearly reversed into me and another when someone drifted into my lane. Then, the headlights decided to take a night off on those dark country roads. The car felt more like a boat in rough seas, and the driver’s seat was anything but comfy. The handbrake? Felt like it was practically in the backseat. Plus, it was all in kilometers, not miles. The whole experience was a letdown.
