I consider Bookonline dishonest at the least and an outright scam at the most. When attempting to attend the annual convention of the Freemasons of the Grand Lodge of Missouri of A. F. & A. M. held at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center, I was somehow directed to Bookonline. Thinking they were legitimate, they continued to make a reservation to attend the convention. Knowing that the Sheraton was offering a group rate for this convention of several thousand attendees, I told the reservationist I wanted this special rate. She assured me that she would give me that rate. Since the dates of this convention coincided with my wedding anniversary, I intended to bring my wife along, so I booked for 2 nights, one king bed. I was given a total of $807.64. I again asked if this was the special rate. The agent assured me that it was, so I made the reservation, and knowing that I would not miss the convention, I opted for no cancellation provisions. However, in discussions with other Freemasons, it became apparent that this reservation was incorrect. Therefore, on August 16th, knowing something was wrong, I cancelled this reservation with Bookonline.
Subsequently, I called the Sheraton and was directed to the correct and honest reservation site. Since my wife was no longer interested in accompanying me, I booked one night at the special rate of $239.32.
Yet, regardless of their dishonesty in pretending to give me the special Grand Lodge of Mo room rate, they still consider themselves justified in charging me over $400.
