So, I tried ordering something online and, let me tell you, it was quite the experience. First off, the choices were limited, and the shipping costs were through the roof, especially with those sneaky import duties and fees. They sprung a $70 insurance fee on me that I didn't even want, and it wasn't in the initial shipping costs. The option to pay duties at delivery was supposed to be available, but it wasn't for the cheaper FedEx service. DHL had it, but the cost was double.
I received conflicting emails about whether insurance was recommended or mandatory, and about paying duties upfront. It was frustrating, and the customer service was no help at all. They kept insisting on mandatory insurance and pre-paid duties. To top it off, they wanted me to pay $1200 in duties on a $3500 item, with $350 shipping. Ridiculous, right?
