So, I tried ordering something online and, let me tell you, it was quite the experience. First off, the choices were limited, and the shipping costs were through the roof, especially with those sneaky import duties and fees. They sprung a $70 insurance fee on me that I didn't even want, and it wasn't in the initial shipping costs. The option to pay duties at delivery was supposed to be available, but it wasn't for the cheaper FedEx service. DHL had it, but the cost was double. I received conflicting emails about whether insurance was recommended or mandatory, and about paying duties upfront. It was frustrating, and the customer service was no help at all. They kept insisting on mandatory insurance and pre-paid duties. To top it off, they wanted me to pay $1200 in duties on a $3500 item, with $350 shipping. Ridiculous, right?

I tried out Shippn to get a pair of shoes from Vinted.fr since they don’t ship to the USA, and I’m in Los Angeles. My old forwarding service shut down, so I found Shippn and decided to give it a shot. They’ve got hosts all over Europe who let you use their addresses. Navigating the Shippn website was a breeze. I picked a host, sent them my order details and tracking info. My shoes were bought on January 30, 2026, and reached the host in Germany by February 10. The host was super communicative, even sent pictures of the package. The delivery cost from Germany to the USA was a bit steep at €55, but the service was reliable. Shoes arrived at my door on February 23, and despite the cost, I’d use Shippn again.

I ordered a pair of girl's shoes from France, thinking it'd be a simple purchase. The shoes cost under $50, but the real surprise came when the shipping charges hit me. The host used DHL to ship them to the UK, and it was a whopping $76 just for postage. Plus, there were import taxes, bumping the total to about $102. It didn't make much sense for such a low-cost item. I felt a bit blindsided by the lack of clarity upfront about these extra costs. If you're thinking of using this service, maybe stick to high-value purchases. For cheaper items, the shipping fees are just too steep.
