Signed up for Open Water with a local PADI center after endless hesitation. The eLearning felt approachable and I did it on my couch over a few evenings. First pool session, I was shaky, breathing too fast, but the instructor’s calm hand signals slowed me down. On the third open-water dive, I hovered above a sandy patch, checked my SPG, and suddenly felt capable. Not invincible, just competent. Getting that certification card was a quiet yes to myself. I still review the safety checks every time, and weirdly, I love that ritual.
