Having sailed many times with Melella

Having sailed many times with Melella, this was our first time with Ambassador, and after reading the reviews, we were a bit unsure, but there was no reason to worry. First off, this was no fly, which is a big win for someone who dislikes airports. As for the rest, it’s a close call. Embarkation. We arrived at Newcastle and had our first drink in hand just 15 minutes later – couldn't have been easier. Food was another plus for Ambassador, with a great selection and flavors. There was a minor issue with the vegetables, as most dishes came with corn, which my wife is allergic to. However, everything else was perfect. Entertainment, I’d say it’s a draw. While Melella offers more, especially on sea days, Ambassador had its moments. Service, we were happy with the service on board. The staff was always friendly and quick to serve, though it did vary from one bar to another. The bartender in Cavern was outstanding and made us laugh a lot. The ship itself is older and smaller, with a few creaks along the way, but nothing major. We did miss a port in Denmark due to bad weather, but considering it’s November, it wasn’t unexpected. Drinks could use a bit more variety, so Melella wins there. There are a few small things Ambassador could improve. Water should be included in the drink package, and the all-inclusive should last until you leave the ship, not stop the night before. If you want a coffee before disembarking, be prepared to pay for it. Overall, Ambassador offers great value for money, and I would recommend it.

We've cruised a lot before, but this was our first time with Ambassador. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth, which was a nice start. The ocean-view cabin was really nice, and the steward was very friendly. I'm gluten free, and they made sure to take care of my needs. We dined at the restaurant, and the food was nice. The entertainment was great, too. One downside, though, was having to pay for water; some other ships offer water stations for free. Still, we'd definitely sail with them again for the "classic cruising" experience.

What can I say, from making the booking to checking

What can I say, from making the booking to checking in and the entire cruise, everything went really well. The staff were all very polite, and especially Tom, our cabin steward, who did everything he could to make sure everything went smoothly. My wife got sick, and the medical attention she received was really good. Our doctor was impressed by the care she got. The food was really good, whether at the Buckingham or the Borough market. The shows were also amazing, and the entertainment was simply great.

The team works very hard, but the hours they have to work

The team works very hard, but the hours they have to work seem too much. However, my experience with the spa staff was not good. I booked a treatment and found the girl unfriendly, and she didn’t communicate well. I even got cut and didn’t get the full treatment but still had to pay the full price. I wouldn’t pay even 10 pounds for the service I got. They offered me 10% off and a hand massage, but I declined the hand massage. They seem to expect you to keep quiet if you don’t get a good service. I have worked in a 5-star spa and know what is expected. Also, the vegetarian and vegan options in the restaurants are outdated, and they should really update the menu.

We took a 121 day world cruise, and we had a great time overall.

We took a 121 day world cruise, and we had a great time overall. One issue with this long trip was the limited quality seating areas indoors; they were often occupied by events, especially the so-called crows nest! It had the best views but was the noisiest spot on the ship in the afternoons. The main deck area was nice and lively. I’ve sailed with Ambassador before, and each time, there has been a price increase at the bar. Overall, if you're looking for a reasonably priced cruise and enjoy participating in daily activities, you won’t go wrong. The show team in the theater is the best we’ve ever seen on any cruise line. If we travel with this line again, it will be for the itinerary & shows.
