Having sailed many times with Melella
Having sailed many times with Melella, this was our first time with Ambassador, and after reading the reviews, we were a bit unsure, but there was no reason to worry. First off, this was no fly, which is a big win for someone who dislikes airports. As for the rest, it’s a close call. Embarkation. We arrived at Newcastle and had our first drink in hand just 15 minutes later – couldn't have been easier. Food was another plus for Ambassador, with a great selection and flavors. There was a minor issue with the vegetables, as most dishes came with corn, which my wife is allergic to. However, everything else was perfect. Entertainment, I’d say it’s a draw. While Melella offers more, especially on sea days, Ambassador had its moments. Service, we were happy with the service on board. The staff was always friendly and quick to serve, though it did vary from one bar to another. The bartender in Cavern was outstanding and made us laugh a lot. The ship itself is older and smaller, with a few creaks along the way, but nothing major. We did miss a port in Denmark due to bad weather, but considering it’s November, it wasn’t unexpected. Drinks could use a bit more variety, so Melella wins there. There are a few small things Ambassador could improve. Water should be included in the drink package, and the all-inclusive should last until you leave the ship, not stop the night before. If you want a coffee before disembarking, be prepared to pay for it. Overall, Ambassador offers great value for money, and I would recommend it.
