Qatar Airways: Disappointment in Disguise
Hey all, wanted to share my recent experience with Qatar Airways and why I might be looking for a new airline. I had to reschedule a flight from Zurich to Barcelona due to a medical emergency with my son. I thought it would be simple, but boy was I wrong.
First, they charged me an extra $60 to change the flight—okay, fair enough. But then, they wouldn’t transfer the 20kg baggage allowance I had already paid $300 for. They wanted me to pay another $300 for the same baggage! Both cities are in Europe, so why the extra cost?
When I asked why I was being charged so much, they said I got "preferred" rates over the phone instead of the bulk rates online. Preferred rates? More like preferred rip-off! Other airlines just transfer the baggage allowance, so why not them?
To make matters worse, if I added the baggage to my ticket today, it’d only be about $360 total. So why was I being overcharged? It feels like they’re trying to squeeze every penny out of you, especially when you’re already stressed.
I’ve always liked Qatar Airways, but this lack of transparency and customer care is just too much. I was hoping to travel more now that I’m retired, but it looks like I'll be checking out other airlines. If they can’t treat their customers right, maybe it’s time we all look elsewhere.
