I’ve sent my children on flights alone with various airlines

I’ve sent my children on flights alone with various airlines many times, and thankfully, it has always gone quite well. Now that they’re considered Young Travelers, it’s a bit more nerve-racking for me since many airlines won’t allow parents to get a gate pass. However, I believe the kids like it more this way. No parents around to embarrass them, haha. Clear communication is important at all stages. I always reach out to the airline to ensure they know about the unaccompanied minors, even though it’s on the ticket. Arriving early is essential because you’ll need to get a gate pass from the ticket desk. I always set aside at least half an hour for this, as the lines can vary from quick to chaotic. Better to be safe and expect a wait. Prepare your child for flying etiquette and tasks that parents usually handle (like cleaning up snack wrappers, keeping track of chargers, and knowing when the bathroom is available). If it’s their first flight or they haven’t taken a long journey like this, it might help to go over a few practice situations beforehand to boost their confidence. Stay in touch with the person picking them up to ensure they’re on time and in the right place. The number of unaccompanied minors can vary by flight, I think it’s related to the time of year. Recently, my kids flew to me, and the plane was filled with kids, likely because summer had just started and many were swapping custody. It was lively but not overwhelming.

Sent my 13 year old daughter alone.

Sent my 13 year old daughter alone. I applied for the unaccompanied minor service online. The service didn’t cost anything. I was pleased with the service, from check in to reuniting with family at the destination. She was moved from place to place, and the staff took care of her documents. During the layover in Doha, she waited in a special room with other unaccompanied minors. Check in was smooth, and a staff member helped her, plus she boarded the planes first. I will surely suggest the service and use it again for my kids.

The staff was not very welcoming

The staff was not very welcoming to families with children. I would not suggest traveling with young kids. The employees seemed a bit rude and were talking amongst themselves.
