Selling data and scamming customers
I initially made a donation through WinRed and, buried deep in their fine print, was apparently giving permission to be relentlessly spammed with political text messages. Since then, I’ve been absolutely inundated with texts from every imaginable campaign using their platform.
I’ve replied STOP, tried to unsubscribe through every link, and even contacted campaigns directly — yet the messages keep coming. When I reached out to WinRed for help, they gave me a canned response saying it’s not their responsibility. That’s a joke. They’re the common platform linking all these messages together and profiting from it.
This kind of shady consent buried in legalese, followed by zero accountability, is the exact kind of thing that makes people distrust political giving platforms. If you’re thinking about donating through WinRed, be prepared to give up your peace and privacy.
