musicMagpie review: refurbished tech, media sales and trade-in service

musicMagpie is a UK recommerce business that buys used technology and media from consumers and sells refurbished devices, games, books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays. This musicMagpie review covers both sides of the service: customers can purchase pre-owned products or obtain an instant valuation for items they want to sell. Current categories include smartphones, tablets, MacBooks, iMacs, smartwatches, consoles, headphones, laptops, games and physical media. Selected mobile devices are also available through rental products.

Refurbished products and trade-in process

For trade-ins, customers identify a device or scan the barcode of eligible media, receive an online valuation and send the items using musicMagpie's free shipping methods. After receipt, the company assesses the condition of the goods and states that payment is made by bank transfer on the same day the assessment is completed.

Its Smart Send service uses Royal Mail, with eligible packages insured up to £150 after they have been accepted and scanned at a Post Office. Refurbished technology sold through the store goes through an internal inspection process and includes a 12-month warranty covering qualifying technical defects and faults caused by workmanship or materials.

Delivery, payment and return conditions

musicMagpie currently advertises free UK delivery. Tech products are normally sent with Royal Mail 24 or Royal Mail 48, while general store terms advise approximately three to seven business days for standard delivery.

Payment methods include Amazon Pay, PayPal, Visa and Mastercard. Eligible UK customers can also use Klarna options including Pay in 3 and Pay in 30 days, while selected purchases support PayPal Credit.

Current store products carry a 14-day money-back return option, and qualifying tech purchases include free tracked returns. The separate 12-month tech warranty applies to covered faults rather than ordinary change-of-mind returns.

    Phone sale was painless

Trade quote took seconds, label was free, and drop off was easy. They adjusted the offer a bit after inspection, explained why, and paid quickly. Felt fair.

Another good experience - in the end.

Another good experience - in the end. Price offered for my iPhone was fair and payment came quickly. The only issue was that Royal Mail messed up the delivery. I paid for Special Delivery and for a while the parcel was missing. Finally it arrived at musicMagpie. Strangely, musicMagpie still suggests sellers use Royal Mail. They should check Trustpilot reviews – they are really terrible. musicMagpie may want to rethink this advice for sending items with Royal Mail, especially since a company is judged by who they work with. I could have been less generous in my review given the delivery mess.

Sold lots of gadgets and media to them through the years and likely bought the same amount back. Service is always good and payment comes fast and fair.
