    Credit card preauthorization seems pointless.

Credit card preauthorization seems pointless. Setting it to $20 doesn’t guarantee coverage; customers can rack up a $20 bill, but the final charge might be only $9.86. This has cost us money. To use gift cards, you have to buy their minimum amount and pay an extra $50 monthly fee to Toast to make them work.

    Terrible system.

Terrible system. Awful support. Their support doesn't know what they're doing, just moving you around, wasting hours. Don't get or rent Toast.

    After launch sales pitch nightmare.

Big problem with after launch sales calls - install went mostly good except for the menu development - that person totally dropped the ball and only threw it together last minute before our menu consulting meeting. I could have done it myself so afterwards i went and tweaked it myself - but she was no help. About a week after our "go live" date Henry Slate started calling me about trying to grow my business. Looking at LInked In it looks like he's in the growth sales team. By reading some reddit sites it looks like they try to sell you subscriptions (in addition to what you are quoted when you sign on) with various services that you really don't need. They offer trial basis, and cancelling/refunds are a nightmare according to these reddit posts I saw. My issue is how shady they are in reaching the business to get you to subscribe after launching. I took a short vacation after launching as i was tied up with getting ready for the toast launch date for about a month. I told the sales guy Henry i'm on vacation leave me an email. I reached out to my onboarding rep and asked that they don't call my cell any more. 2 days later while i was still on vacation they called me again on my cell, i didn't answer the call fast enough so they data-mined my employee list and called a part time employee on her personal cell (since it was in her employee profile on toast) and she had to tell them it wasn't her decision to make (that employee was at her day job elsewhere). My onboarding rep is pretending he doesn't know what goes on for sales after launch (which is a lie) and it's all one big game to increase revenue on the backs of small restaurants.

Over the last two years, the support staff

Over the last two years, the support staff, although polite, often lack the necessary knowledge to help customers with even simple issues. I don’t have enough time to explain all my complaints, but here are some big ones. Don’t go with TDS, they create false promises. Your delivery numbers will suffer due to unhappy clients. Picture a delivery driver on a bike, delivering hot food in 10F weather for miles without protection. Toast says drivers are not their responsibility but fails to support us, their customers, when it comes to DoorDash or UberEats service quality. Trying to get the year-end 1099s report has taken over a week, and they still can’t get it right, not to mention they never follow up. There are almost weekly updates that mess with our menus and prices, and so on. Managers are nowhere to be found, hiding behind their desks.

Toast has been reliable for our POS needs

Toast has been reliable for our POS needs, but the experience with their Payroll services has been dreadful. Whenever there's an issue, the initial customer support isn't able to assist and we're directed to the "tax team" or "expert team", who take an eternity to respond, leaving us in the dark. Recently, I raised a case regarding 941 filings in early March, and despite escalating it to the "expert team", it's now 3/18 and I'm still waiting for a response, despite my follow-ups. It's incredibly frustrating that there's no way to contact them directly. Moreover, finding Payroll cases online is impossible, unlike POS cases, which suggests a vast separation between the two services. This has been a super extra frustrating experience!

Inadequate payment and tip handling system

I am quite disappointed with Toast’s lack of communication with banks, which leads to long waits for payments. I was told I would need to wait a whole month to receive my money, which is not good for a modern POS system. The app also has ongoing issues with how tips are shared in restaurants, leading to confusion and possible mishandling of tips. Servers have reported incidents of missing or stolen tips, and it looks like Toast’s system adds to this problem. It’s upsetting to see how a service like Toast can mismanage such a vital part of restaurant jobs—especially since tips are an important part of our earnings. I would not suggest it to any restaurant staff or businesses seeking trustworthy service.

I'm now that person saying that if I could give no stars

I'm now that person saying that if I could give no stars, I would. We just tried to place an order for delivery through toast. We selected delivery, but it somehow confirmed "pick up"! We then called the restaurant to cancel it, and they said we need to check with Toast. We contacted Toast, and they told us only the restaurant could cancel it. We went back to the restaurant, and once more they said they could not cancel the pick up option (even though we never selected pick up!) These are not issues that should be impossible to solve -- worst app ever. We won’t use them again, and I suggest restaurants and customers let this "service" fade away.

    CAUTION!!!

CAUTION!!! This company is under scrutiny for dishonest business methods by Congress. They take money without informing their customers. USE DIRECT DEPOSIT. The customer support is unhelpful. They will have you fill out lots of forms, stretch every response as long as they can and echo everything you say, making you repeat everything you say just to avoid assisting you in the end. Search for them on YouTube. All bad reviews on YouTube.

We mistakenly ordered from the wrong place.

We mistakenly ordered from the wrong place. Just after placing the order, we realized the mistake. We tried calling the restaurant, Relish in Bartram Park, but no one picked up. After 15 calls, we reached out to Toast for support. They were unhelpful, telling us there was nothing they could do and suggested contacting our bank. Thankfully, Relish in Jax Beach, where we wanted to order from, stepped in to assist.

System is functional, but customer service is abysmal, earning a zero

The system is functional, but customer service is abysmal, earning a zero. The numerous issues I faced with the system were compounded by unhelpful customer service agents, causing significant delays and customer loss. While the system itself may be adequate, the overall experience, especially in resolving problems, is severely lacking.

Toast might work well for restaurants

Toast might work well for restaurants, but for the average consumer, it's just not good. The app doesn't let you share your feedback or leave reviews for the restaurants using it. It's been a pretty unpleasant experience overall, and the app itself is not up to the mark.

The sales rep promised a lot of features that the system couldn’t deliver. Most of what was mentioned isn’t available. We are still trying to return the equipment and cancel the service without even using any of it yet.

They aren't very clear with their policies.

They aren't very clear with their policies. Often, they hold onto deposits without good reason. After 20 years in this field, this is the most disheartening POS vendor I've dealt with. Definitely would not recommend.
