My partner and I just got back from our first river cruise

My partner and I just got back from our first river cruise, and it was a wonderful experience. We sailed along the Burgundy & Provence route, starting in Lyon and ending in Arles. The staff aboard the ship were great, always making sure everyone felt comfortable and taken care of. We connected with several couples during meals and excursions, which was nice. The food was better than I expected, and having everything included made it even more enjoyable. The French Balcony rooms were spacious and had plenty of storage. I think upgrading to the next room type might give you a bigger bathroom with a tub, which could be worth considering. Each city and village we visited had its own charm, and we spent a lot of time walking around and exploring. Most of the docking spots were close to the city centers, which made sightseeing easy. They also provided umbrellas for rainy days, plus hiking sticks and bikes available for the day. I wish I had used the bike in Arles, but it was still a great time! We'll definitely book another cruise with them. Now I understand why some people had done five or more trips with them. The only thing I regret is not booking the pre-cruise option in Paris, but that's on me.

I've taken 17 cruises with Uniworld and they have been mostly very good. The boats are nice, the staff are friendly, and the daily excursions are quite fun. Sophie in the Guernsey office is particularly nice and knows a lot about the cruises if you need any assistance. I would recommend these cruises. The only issue I see is their pricing system since the costs fluctuate a lot, making it feel like a game of chance when you book. It’s a little annoying, especially when your budget is tight like mine.

Great river cruises with this company. We’ve been on the Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Rhine, and Danube trips – each one offered something special and was of a high standard. It was lovely meeting new people and sharing these unique experiences. Everything was well taken care of! Definitely recommend.

Be careful when booking with this Travel Company.

Be careful when booking with this Travel Company. I planned a cruise through AAA during the pandemic and was excited about the trip. However, just before the departure, my doctor recommended against traveling due to our age, and the US State Department issued travel warnings for Europe. As a result, we had to cancel. When both AAA and I tried to get a refund for half of the trip cost as a penalty, Uniworld basically said 'too bad'.

Quite messy with their trips.

Quite messy with their trips. They say cancelling is easy and that you won’t have to pay anything. Yet, on the final day, they keep calling you for money for a trip you didn't go on and that they claimed you don’t have to pay.
