I am quite let down; the replies to my emails

I am quite let down; the replies to my emails and the cancellation process are really slow. The room wasn't what I saw online, and I wanted to cancel and find another place, but it's been days and I'm still waiting for a reply. I haven't used the room since the check-in date.

    Absolutely terrible experience

I had an absolutely terrible experience with HousingAnywhere, and I cannot recommend this service to anyone. This platform claims to provide protection and a "stress-free move-in," but my experience was far from it. The landlord actively encouraged me to move our conversations off the platform, claiming that HousingAnywhere takes a 25% commission. She offered me a "special offer" through the platform just so I could get her contact information and finalize the booking privately. This is a direct violation of HousingAnywhere’s policies, and the platform failed to protect me as a tenant despite charging me a tenant protection fee. When I arrived, the apartment was in appalling condition. The room was dirty, with unmade beds, a bad smell throughout the apartment, drying sheets scattered around, wet towels left behind, and even open water bottles that were not mine. The advertised “full closet space” was nonexistent, as the closet and drawers were full of the landlord’s personal items, such as paint buckets, brushes, and clothing, leaving me nowhere to store my belongings or university materials. This was not only misleading but unacceptable. I reported these issues within 24 hours, as HousingAnywhere’s policy states, and provided photographic evidence. Despite this, I was told that my situation did not meet their criteria for a refund, even though the conditions were clearly poor and differed from what was advertised. I had no choice but to find alternative accommodations that same night at my own expense, as the space was unfit for living. The lack of accountability from HousingAnywhere is shocking. They did nothing to address the landlord’s blatant policy violations, nor did they ensure that I received the protection I paid for. This platform offers no real security to tenants, despite charging fees for tenant "protection." Do not trust HousingAnywhere for your housing needs. Their policies are poorly enforced, their customer service is unhelpful, and they leave tenants vulnerable to exploitation by landlords who break the rules. My experience was stressful, costly, and utterly disappointing. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for accommodation.

    Is the stronation clause legal

I consider HousingAnywhere's fine print trap regarding "strict notice periods" to be illegal, immoral and an unacceptable method. If I book an apartment as a student and my employment contract is terminated at short notice by my employer, Housing keeps the full rent amount. The tenant, on the other hand, can sublet the apartment and collect double the rent? Example: Tenant 1 rents 6 weeks before moving in in September 2024, gives notice 3 weeks before moving in due to work. Has paid 800 euros, receives no refund. Tenant 2 then rents the same apartment for September 2024, gives notice 2 weeks before moving in due to work. Paid 800 Euro , receives no refund. Tenant 3 then rents the same apartment for September 2024 and moves in. HousingAnywhere collects, including a 250 Euro fee for each tenant, 2100 Euro FOR NOTHING, How can it be that something like this is valid in Europe (EU)? I am paying for a service that is not provided. In my opinion, this is theft. Why has nobody reported this to the Dutch authorities? Why has no one informed the consumer organization? And that there is still no control, for example by the consumer organization. I, for one, am going to take action! I will file a complaint and demand my money back on the basis of an illegal contract.

    Caution! Exercise caution when dealing

Caution! Exercise caution when dealing with this company. I found myself in a residence that did not match the description provided. It's not advisable to book, especially if you have to undertake long journeys, only to end up in a place that doesn't feel like home. Despite presenting substantial evidence, they refused to refund my money. Upon reviewing their Terms and Conditions, I discovered that the criteria for assessing discrepancies, as outlined in Article 15.16.2.4, are subjective and determined by the company. Even with clear evidence, they exercise their own discretion on what qualifies as "sufficient." Unless legal action is taken, you might find yourself being deceived by them. While the customer service appears polite, their primary interest seems to be retaining the initial payment, with little regard for the evidence provided. A law enforcement officer suggested contacting them immediately when inside the property, as their on-the-spot verification holds more weight. This might offer a slim hope for a potential full refund, but, unfortunately, I'm now left without money and accommodation at the start of the semester. It's advisable to steer clear of this company, as they don't seem to operate with integrity.

    The worst unpleasant experience

If you're considering using HousingAnywhere, think twice. My experience with them has been extremely disappointing. I informed my landlord of a cancellation more than 50 days in advance—well before the contract even started—and both HousingAnywhere and the landlord refused to issue a refund. Their customer service has been completely unhelpful, showing no regard for the rights or concerns of tenants. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue and providing ample notice for the room to be relisted, HousingAnywhere has sided with the landlord, leaving me with no support and a significant financial loss. It's clear that HousingAnywhere prioritizes its advertisers (Laura) over the rights of tenants, offering little to no protection in cases like mine. If you value fair treatment and responsive customer support, I strongly advise against using HousingAnywhere. Their policies are rigid, and their lack of empathy for customers is beyond frustrating. I am still waiting for the refund of my money.

    My experience with this booking

My experience with this booking company was incredibly disappointing. They failed to properly manage and vet their properties, which led to numerous problems. Communication with the landlord was terrible, showing a lack of professionalism and care. Students, who are already vulnerable, were treated unfairly, with important information being kept from them and entries into their rooms happening without warning. Requests for help were often ignored, and basic needs weren't always met. Serious issues like pests were ignored, putting residents in danger. In emergencies, there was no support, leaving residents feeling abandoned. Moving out was chaotic, and the landlord only responded when threatened legally. Getting our deposit back was confusing and stressful. Overall, this company's performance was very poor. They didn't address important issues and lacked professionalism. I wouldn't recommend renting from them at all.

BEWARE: Deliberately deceptive pricing practices and zero customer service after move-in

HousingAnywhere's pricing practices are deliberately deceptive to trick tenants. Anyone booking a property on this site for the month of February based a daily rate calculation is charged a PREMIUM per day. A "monthly rate" for daily rate calculated properties should only be advertised if the daily rate is based on the monthly rate being annualized and then divided by 365 to get to a daily rate. Doing this any other way is DECEPTION. Why should I have to pay a premium per day, just for the joy of staying in a property in the depths of winter and during a 28 day month? It's ludicrous. The lack of accountability and customer service by this platform after the booking is horrendous. I will be telling every landlord I know about this experience and recommending that she look elsewhere to serve her tenants. And I will never use or recommend this platform again.

    WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

I am a student who was supposed to live abroad for some time. I booked a flat through this website and I paid a "Tenant Protection Fee" of 175e, which said precisely: "If anything goes wrong with your flat, you are able to cancel your reservation 48h after your move in." So, it went wrong in the end, and the agency told me that my conditions for cancellation are not valid for their Terms and Conditions, and they never refunded me my money back, neither the rent payment or the protection fee. Also, when you are making a cancellation at the end you have to upload some pictures and which was never mentioned as a condition for cancelation. Classic cheat for the people, especially for the students who usually have no money.

    The most unpleasant experience

Around ten days ago, I booked a room through HousingAnywhere for December 1st. However, a few days later, I encountered some issues and requested to cancel the reservation. Unfortunately, HousingAnywhere has refused to refund my payment of approximately 1000 euros. Despite notifying them of the cancellation more than 50 days in advance, they have shown no willingness to return my money. I am deeply disappointed with their lack of regard for customers and tenants, as they seem to be more focused on profiting at the expense of others. I strongly believe they are obligated to refund my payment.

I wouldn't advise using this company.

I wouldn't advise using this company. Right from the start, the price was raised from the advertised 1400 Euro to over 2000, plus extra charges for a service that doesn't offer much value. The place was far from clean, located in a sketchy area with a lot of drug users, and there were no amenities nearby, despite what was claimed. Also, trying to collect more data through Trustpilot feels unnecessary and off-putting; people should be able to leave reviews without all this extra stuff.

    Rip Off

After booking a flat in Spain on Housing Anywhere on Nov 24th, I informed them on Nov 25th that we had to cancel due to my wifes father entering the hospital. On Dec 2nd, my wifes brother agreed to watch her father in the month of June so we could stay in Spain. |However, Housing Anywhere refused to honor our stay request OR provide a refund of our money. Cheats and rip off artists getting double payments for the same rental!!! DO NOT USE!!!!

    Terrible time in Berlin

Terrible time in Berlin Housinganywhere feels more like a money grab. Their main goal seems to be just to take your deposit and nothing else. I faced issues getting my deposit back and got zero help from Housinganywhere. Moreover, my time in Berlin with MP GmbH (Samos Sanchez) was a disaster. They offer only 6-month contracts, and after that, they hike up the monthly price. They fix problems from long ago, and you end up paying for it.

    HOUSING ANYWHERE IS A SCAM

Rented a room for my daughter in Barcelona for four months. Contrary to their description on their platform the room has no natural light, no security and the surface is 5 sq. meters smaller than advertised. Reached them, namely their boss, Jim Bijwaard, who took no action. Only action this SOB took was to take my money, including a 1000 euro security fee. FOR YOUR SAKE stay away from this platform.

    HousingAnywhere "tenant protection fee"

Warning to all potential users: HousingAnywhere imposes a steep, non-refundable fee on every single booking—euphemistically labeled a “tenant protection fee.” In reality, this is nothing more than a hidden brokerage charge, cleverly disguised. These fees can range anywhere from €100 to €600 and are never returned, regardless of what happens with your rental. It’s a one-time payment, and it’s gone the moment you click "Book." This platform profits from unsuspecting tenants, not from providing genuine protection. I strongly urge anyone looking for housing to avoid HousingAnywhere and seek out more transparent, trustworthy alternatives. Date of experience: July 19, 2025
