After a wonderful trip along the Mekong

After a wonderful trip along the Mekong river in 2019 with AMA, we chose them again for our Danube cruise, though we wondered if the service could be as good as last time. It seems like a company standard, because the care, service, and friendliness of the staff were just as great as before. Sadly, I broke my wrist on the second day, but the staff, especially Jasmina, were so helpful, even accompanying my husband and me to the hospital to avoid any language barriers. We’re grateful for all their support. I would definitely travel with AMA again, and we're considering the Rhine cruise next year.

We recently came back from a two-week river cruise along the Danube on the AMA Verde, with land stays in Prague and Romania. (We booked the trip on October 18, and the ship set sail on October 21.) This was our first time on a river cruise, and we were quite happy with the quality of the tours, the guides, the food, and the accommodations. The crew members on the ship and the cruise directors were really helpful and ensured everyone had a good time. We would also like to recognize the housekeeping team who worked hard to keep the ship and our rooms in great shape, always with a smile and a kind word.

We cruised the Danube on the Amabella in August 2024 and had a great time. We liked that all the excursions were included in the price. The staff was really helpful. The best part for us was how much the culinary team cared about making sure my daughter’s allergies were managed. She could eat safely without worrying about using her epipen. They even prepared meals that looked like the others so she didn’t feel left out. This is not easy to do and very rare. If we could give more than 5 stars... we’d give it a 10.

My first AMA trip on the Danube was nice. The recent Douro cruise, however, was kind of plain. The ship felt a bit small. There were two very good staff members—Christina the sommelier was really good, as was the hotel manager. The excursion guides were also nice. But the front desk and lounge staff hardly made eye contact, never smiled, and seemed to have trouble with English. This made the whole experience feel dull and common. It was quite different from my last AMA cruise. I wouldn’t go on another AMA Douro cruise even if it was free. I wouldn’t recommend this cruise. Maybe consider the Danube instead.

I contacted customer service as you recommended, but still haven't heard anything back from you. Unfortunately, I wouldn't travel with you again. The staff were unhelpful and seemed unprepared. We spent a lot of money on this trip, which was meant to be a special one for my husband, who has Parkinson's and Dementia. I expected everything to be organized and smooth, but your cruise manager didn’t meet expectations.
