Been tutoring on Wyzant for 6 months

Been tutoring on Wyzant for 6 months, not sure why bad reviews! LOVE the site, tools are useful. Meeting great students - college, adults learning Access and Excel. From tutor side, like calendaring, video, billing handled. Students like site too. Just wanted part-time, hide profile when busy, direct requests and posted jobs good combo. Friend referred, we both happy with company!

Overall, a great service with a video/whiteboard platform

Overall, a great service with a video/whiteboard platform that performs quite well. My only issue is the number of tutors who just want the job/assignment to do it for you and then ask for payment through venmo/paypal. Not really Wyzant's problem, but you may need to invest a bit to find the right tutor.

A great place to get a tutor!

A great place to get a tutor! You can pick who you want unlike other sites. It keeps track of hours and costs, also records lessons. My go-to for finding tutors!

Wyzant seems to be a clever way

Wyzant seems to be a clever way for the founders to make money quickly. They take a big chunk, 25%, of what tutors earn. The platform doesn't care about a tutor's experience outside of Wyzant; it only cares about how many students and hours you have on their platform. This makes it hard for experienced tutors to compete with those who focus solely on making money for the founders. As a tutor, my experience wasn't good. I had a student who was inappropriate, using rude language and making advances towards me. When I asked Wyzant for help three times, they said they couldn't do anything because they see themselves as just a marketplace. Then, a week later, they deactivated my account without explaining why. I don't recommend becoming a tutor on Wyzant. The competition is tough, and their reviews are unreliable.

I contacted customer support about an issue.

I contacted customer support about an issue. A tutor made inappropriate advances towards me, and instead of dealing with it and removing the tutor’s profile, they just ignored it. This is really worrying, especially since they work with kids, which could lead to grooming. Wyzant usually takes 1-3 business days to respond to support requests, but mine has been ignored for over two weeks now.

    Wyzant's customer service is really

Wyzant's customer service is really bad. I'd strongly suggest considering other tutoring services. I tried to create an account, but it took 8 business days just to get their attention. When they finally responded, they claimed they reviewed my profile but asked for additional details, even though that information was already in my bio. I followed up to make sure the information was correct, but they closed the ticket without explanation. After another follow-up, they activated my account, seemingly just because I asked for help. My credentials are legitimate, and I can prove it, but they simply claimed my credentials are invalid without proper justification. It appears to be a common problem based on feedback from Reddit and other sources. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for tutoring services.

I ran into the same problem

I ran into the same problem as many other tutors have reported. Wyzant's vetting process is incredibly unclear. You could spend a week creating a comprehensive profile, taking their questionable tests, uploading teaching videos, and responding to student inquiries, only to have your account deactivated without any explanation. I have Ivy-league credentials and two master's degrees, one in education. This has been a pretty terrible experience, and I really should have read these reviews beforehand.

I've been attempting to find a

I've been attempting to find a Spanish tutor for my daughter through this website, but unfortunately, my experience has been frustrating. The first tutor scheduled for last Friday didn't show up and rescheduled for today, only to miss the appointment again, providing excuses for her absence. I then booked another tutor, but the entire hour was spent searching for a Spanish book with zero tutoring taking place. This has turned out to be a waste of both time and money.

    The application process to be

The application process to be a tutor with this company is ridiculous. Despite excelling in tests, I kept getting emails to fix my 'free response.' I followed the recommended format exactly, yet still got another email a week later to fix it. My partner got rejected for the same reason. It feels discriminatory and unclear on the exclusion criteria. They should focus on subject expertise and teaching styles, not just how well tutors write a narrative.

representative was aggressive and rude from the start. In an introductory text, she abruptly stated that she wouldn't be helping with any of my concerns and wouldn't assist with any inquiries. What?! I had only inquired about their services and availability.

I made contact once, and a tutor named Louisa asked me to make an appointment. I didn't even make an appointment exactly, but I waited alone and took $76 off my credit card. I just don't understand, and don't use it again. This is a scam.

    Man, Wyzant is a nightmare

Man, Wyzant is a nightmare for tutors. They just cut me off without any real explanation. They cited some section 18b of their agreement, something about violating terms or misusing the site. But they didn’t give any specifics, just an email saying my access was terminated immediately. They asked for documents if I disagreed, but what documents? How am I supposed to prove something when I don’t even know what I did wrong? When I reached out for clarity, their customer support was useless. They said they couldn’t research it. They claimed to have conducted a review, but I was never involved, never asked anything, and got zero details. Seriously, Wyzant is a joke. Tutors and students, steer clear!
