Jordan is an amazing place
Jordan is an amazing place with such friendly people. I booked a taxi to pick me up from the airport and take me to the Mena Hotel, and the driver was super nice. The staff at the hotel were helpful when I arrived early in the morning, but they did leave me to find my room with my luggage by myself.
First impression of the room was that it needed a bit of an upgrade, but the king-size bed was really comfy. The room had a view of the small pool. The TV didn’t work and the fridge only worked if you kept the key card in the slot—using a credit card helped. The air conditioning was top-notch, and the shower was just okay. The hotel was pretty busy and there’s a school opposite, which made the area chaotic during pickup and drop-off times, but it was fun to watch.
There’s a smoking area outside and an American-style bar/restaurant attached to the hotel serving burgers, fries, wings, and alcohol. There’s also a small shop in the foyer selling jewelry and knick-knacks.
Zuhair, the CEO, is an excellent guide and storyteller. Jerash is a fascinating Roman site, and the Dead Sea is a one-of-a-kind experience. Karak has an interesting crusader castle, and Mount Nebo is all about Moses. The hotel in Petra was weird—you stay in one place but have to walk to another for breakfast and the pool because other hotels are closing down due to fewer tourists.
Definitely visit Little Petra before Petra itself. Petra is just incredible! Skip the nighttime visit, it’s not worth it. If you go for a Turkish bath, tip the staff beforehand because the guy who collects the money is quite unpleasant.
The desert journey was fantastic, though it was too hot to sleep. The food cooked under the sand was amazing. Lay by the firepit and enjoy the stars. The extra 4x4 trip is a must—so much fun!
Aqaba was not my favorite, but the boat trip was awesome. The journey back to Amman was long and boring.
Ladies, local men might flatter you a lot, but don’t get your hopes up. They’re respectful and polite. Definitely visit Jordan!
