    I had a terrible experience

I had a terrible experience with this moving company. Scheduled my move a couple of months in advance and paid the deposit. A few weeks before the move, I called to confirm and was assured everything was on track. They promised to call with exact dates and times closer to the move. After several calls, they finally gave me a date and time – the last day of the window they provided. I had to vacate our place by the end of that day. The evening before, I got an email at 5:30pm saying they couldn't make it and to call for more info. Really? An email for something this important? It was 5:30 the day before I had to be out. Called multiple times and they couldn’t fulfill their contract. Ended up renting a truck and driving 1300 miles to our new home, unloading everything ourselves. They did refund my deposit, but the whole ordeal was beyond stressful.

    Man, where do I even

Man, where do I even start? From the get-go, this company did me dirty. They quoted me one price, but when they showed up, suddenly it was more because they "had to pack" my washer and dryer. I used to be a mover, so I know there's no special box for those, but I had no choice. Had to move out, right? Then they took over two weeks to deliver my stuff, and when it finally arrived, my washer and dryer were all scratched and dented. My fridge? Dented. My dresser? Scratched from tape. And to top it off, about $2000 worth of my tools were stolen. They wanted me to file a claim with weights and receipts—ridiculous! They'd pay pennies on the dollar. Should've just sold everything and started fresh. Six months later, still mad. Thought I was dealing with North America Moving, but nope, American Van Lines. Huge mistake.

    Absolutely terrible

I had an absolutely terrible experience with American Van Lines. They were incredibly rude and showed no empathy or compassion. We hired them to move our stuff across the country, but it was a disaster from start to finish. They didn’t pick up everything we paid for, so we had to sell our golf cart at a loss. We also paid for storage while our house was being finished, but they couldn’t even prove our stuff went into storage. On delivery day, they first said the truck broke down, then later claimed it was stolen. We had to constantly chase them for updates, and most of our calls went unanswered. In the end, we only got a few boxes back, and they refused to take any responsibility. Thank goodness we had third-party insurance, but it doesn’t make up for what we lost. Avoid American Van Lines at all costs!

    Moving day was a disaster.

Moving day was a disaster. They promised a timely delivery, but it was chaos from start to finish. I wasn't there for the packing, but when they arrived, it was a nightmare. The two movers were rough, hitting walls and scratching surfaces. I saw them break my grandmother's desk! It was like watching bulls in a china shop. They didn’t speak English and showed up in a Budget rental truck, not the company’s vehicle. When they asked my Mom to sign off, I asked to review it. The guy snatched the paperwork from me. My Mom explained I was helping her, but he started yelling. He jumped on my back to get the paper. I finally got a copy but not without a fight. Our new neighbors probably got a good show. Unpacking, we found broken sentimental items. Never using them again. Rent a U-Haul and do it yourself!

This moving company is a nightmare. They lied about using their own team; turns out they contract it out, which I wanted to avoid to prevent scams. Sure enough, they tried to bump up the quote by $700 last minute, and the movers just waited in the truck while I argued about it. Getting in touch with customer service was a mess. They didn't give me my pick-up time until the day of the move, and even then it was wrong. I sent numerous emails and made countless calls, but got vague responses. At one point, I asked where my stuff was and the rep had no clue, promising to follow up but rarely did. They also missed the delivery deadline. I was told my cross-country move would take 2-2.5 weeks, but now it's looking like 4-4.5 weeks. Truly awful experience. Avoid this company at all costs!

    Moving with American Van Lines

Moving with American Van Lines was a complete disaster. We initially chose them based on positive reviews and a reasonable quote, but things quickly went south. As the moving date approached, communication became a nightmare. Calls went unanswered, and I couldn't get a firm pickup date. We had tight schedules with flights and hotel bookings, so this was stressful. The night before the move, after numerous calls, a driver finally contacted us, but arrived over an hour late. To our surprise, a different company, United Van Lines, delivered our items. They were clueless about our situation, and the paperwork was a mess. We ended up paying an extra $700, and some furniture was damaged. Customer service was nonexistent, and we felt completely ignored. We won't recommend them to anyone.

    Moving has always been a

Moving has always been a bit of a hassle, but my recent move from Colorado to Georgia with this company was beyond frustrating. First, the drivers were supposed to pick up our stuff on Monday, but they turned up Sunday morning instead. The initial quote we got from a virtual walkthrough ended up being off by thousands once half our stuff was packed. Throughout the whole process, we never got any status updates on pickup or delivery. Our home even got damaged, and we had to fix a wall the night before closing. The movers were careless, getting dirt on our carpets and using our furniture. When we called about delivery, we were told a hurricane might delay it past the agreed date. And good luck reaching a manager—apparently, they're never available. Just a terrible experience all around.

    I usually don't write negative

I usually don't write negative reviews, but this move was a disaster. We hired AVL to move us from Acworth, GA to Little Egg Harbor, NJ, and it started well with Warren, the sales rep. But chaos hit once the movers showed up. They arrived without packing materials because apparently, we were supposed to pack everything, which was news to us. They had to leave mid-job to get supplies. Then, they told us the garage items weren't on the original invoice, leading to a $2700 upcharge. When I refused, they threatened to stop the move. Feeling trapped, I paid. Then, their truck wasn’t big enough for all our stuff, and they wanted us to pay for another truck! Fortunately, I found Payless Moving, who saved the day at an extra cost. Avoid AVL unless you want headaches and unexpected costs.

    Last year, we had to

Last year, we had to move my 99-year-old mother-in-law from the West Coast to Florida. We trusted American Van Lines, thinking it would take just two weeks for her belongings to arrive. She flew with clothes for two weeks. Two months later, her things finally showed up. During that time, she slept on an air mattress, borrowed a winter coat, and bought clothes from Goodwill. I called 42 times with no response until I left a bad review. Then, they contacted me but demanded $3,400 in cash for delivery. They also broke two legs off an antique chest and "fixed" it with silver screws. The worst part? They insisted on a 5-star review for any compensation. We refused to change our rating because others need to know about this. It feels like they only care about stars, not service.

    I had an awful experience

I had an awful experience with this moving company. Initially quoted $4,500, but ended up paying over $10,000. Tried reaching out to the VP and CEO, got no response. The sales rep, Anthony, suggested I move my closing date to 2/21, then went MIA. Manager later admitted it was to lower my quote. The moving coordinator, Roman, never called and was rude when I asked questions. They raised my quote by more than 60% last minute, saying I missed listing items, which was untrue. They included duplicate items and refused to correct it. They pressured me into signing an inflated quote less than 24 hours before closing. Multiple items were broken or missing, and communication was terrible throughout. Worst move ever, cost me thousands more and endless frustration. Avoid this company.

    My experience with American Van

My experience with American Van Lines was horrendous. My family hired them to move my grandma's belongings from Washington to Florida. For two months, they lost everything. My 99-year-old grandma was forced to live out of a suitcase and sleep on an air mattress. They never kept us informed, and whenever we tried to contact them, we were either ignored or given excuses. Calls went unanswered, and emails were non-existent. Eventually, they demanded $3,400 in cash or a money order with barely any notice, making it feel like a ransom. When the delivery finally arrived, they broke an antique, and their solution was drilling holes and using silver screws. We tried to get compensation, but they gave us the runaround. If you're considering American Van Lines, think twice.

    I can't even begin to

I can't even begin to describe the nightmare we had with this moving company. First, they gave us a super low estimate to get our business. But then, they outsourced the labor, and those guys ended up breaking several family antiques. The actual cost? Almost double what they initially quoted. Then, total radio silence—no calls, no emails, nothing. My 80-year-old mom was left in the dark for over a week. After spending over an hour on the phone, we found out our furniture had been sitting in a Tampa warehouse with no delivery date in sight. And after spending over $7000, they had the nerve to threaten to drive away with our stuff unless we paid their inflated prices on the spot. When I posted a review about this, they even threatened to sue me! Unbelievable.

    Nightmare

Moving cross-country with American Van Lines was a nightmare for me and my boyfriend. After comparing rates, we chose them, drawn in by their responsive sales team. But once they had our business, they became impossible to reach. The movers hiked up the quote by $1500 on arrival, despite our detailed inventory review. We reluctantly signed, hoping the cost would drop after weighing, but it never did. Our stuff arrived 5 weeks later, with several broken items and parts missing. Filing a claim got us a measly $242 for over $2000 in damages. My boyfriend's negative review led to a bizarre negotiation with their rep, who pushed for a positive review in exchange for money. We refused to be silenced for a payout. Beware, their positive reviews may be bought.

I had the misfortune of dealing with American Van Lines a few months back, and honestly, it was a total nightmare. I tried to get everything set up for my move in advance, thinking it’d be smooth sailing. I called them weeks ahead to update my inventory, but no one got back to me. I finally got a response just days before my move, but they were no help. They told me they couldn’t pick up all my stuff because there was too much, leaving me to scramble at the last minute. When they finally showed up, they wanted more money upfront, claiming they’d lost my previous payment. I've been calling nonstop to sort this out, but it's just been one issue after another. They offered me some compensation, but it’s nowhere near enough to cover the stress they’ve caused.

    We decided to move from

We decided to move from DC to NYC and chose American Van Lines, thinking we'd get a smooth ride. Danny gave us a binding estimate of about $15,000 after a virtual walkthrough. But on moving day, things took a sharp turn. Miguel, the team lead, told us we were their only job, yet spent hours counting boxes. Suddenly, he demanded $28,000, double the estimate, claiming more boxes than expected. We were stuck, and they only gave us a 10% discount after a long negotiation, with no proper documentation. Worse, they later billed us for extra services like shrink wrap, which we never asked for. The move was a mess, leaving us to deal with unfinished work and extra costs. We just want a fair resolution and compensation for this stressful experience.

    I felt completely ignored

Let me tell you about this crazy moving experience I had. It was supposed to be smooth, right? Scheduled my move for a Thursday with delivery the next day. I called customer service to get the pickup time and change my payment method, but getting through was a nightmare. After being disconnected twice, I finally got the pickup time. The movers arrived just fine on Thursday, but Friday was a whole different story. I waited at my storage unit and called for an ETA, but got nothing but vague responses. Hours passed, and finally, they told me delivery was pushed to Saturday. Saturday came, and surprise, no delivery. They pushed it to Monday, and I still got the runaround. It was such a frustrating experience, and I felt completely ignored.

    It's not something I'd recommend

Moving with American Van Lines was a rollercoaster I wouldn't want to ride again. I was promised a smooth move, but on the day, the crew said some of my stuff wouldn’t fit, despite my detailed inventory. This left me scrambling to sort out essentials last-minute. When I reached out for help, I was met with a shrug and no real solutions, adding to the stress of the whole ordeal. After I vented online, Theresa from AVL reached out with a generic response. When I pushed back, they offered me $350 to tweak my review, but it came with conditions that felt like a gag order. I decided not to take the bait. Now, I'm skeptical about their glowing reviews. Feels like a shady way to do business, and it's not something I'd recommend.

American Van Lines was a disaster for my move. Paul McDermott lied to me repeatedly, and getting him on the phone was nearly impossible. Once they got my money, their customer service vanished. I chose them thinking they'd use their own employees, but they outsourced my move to a sketchy company called Shield Moving and Storage. Found one review for Shield and it was terrible. Now I'm stuck letting them move my stuff 900 miles with only two days before closing on our current home. I'm terrified my belongings won't even make it or will be damaged. I thought this moving company

I thought this moving company would be okay, maybe a solid 3 stars, but it ended up being a disaster. Communication was a mess, and they were late with my move, not keeping to the contract at all. They offered a measly $45 for the delay, like that would make it better. Some of my stuff got damaged; they paid for some of it, but not all. And then my toolbox just vanished from the garage, and they didn’t even acknowledge it. The worst part? They tried to get me to sign something saying I wouldn’t post anything negative about them after they offered a low amount for the damages. I haven’t signed yet, and I feel like they’re overstepping my rights. Definitely a 1-star experience.

I moved cross-country from California to North Carolina using American Van Lines and it turned into a nightmare. I gave them a detailed inventory list, even updated it right before the move. But when the driver came, he claimed many items weren't listed and refused to take them. Half of my stuff got left behind in California while I was already heading to North Carolina and my husband was flying out the next day. The truck wasn't even full! When I left a bad review, they kept asking me to change it, even offering me money. I refused because I believe in being honest about my experience. Now, they’re saying I have to sign a paper promising never to talk about them again, just to get a tiny refund of $242 for the damages. It feels like they’re holding my money hostage. I wanted to share this before signing anything. This company seems to silence unhappy customers and make false promises. You won't believe the chaos I went through with American Van Lines. They picked up my stuff on October 28th and said it might arrive by November 26th, but even that is a guess. It’s been a complete mess from start to finish. The driver was 15 hours late for pickup, causing a domino effect that messed up my move, flight, and cost me a ton of extra money. I've had to constantly call them because their drivers kept no-showing, which just made everything worse. And after all that, they offered me a measly $30 credit! I regret not going with Two Men and a Truck, who were much more reliable with another move I had. Save yourself the hassle and avoid American Van Lines.

So, imagine this: I hired American Van Lines for what I thought would be a smooth move, but boy, was I wrong. The initial video estimate seemed okay, but come moving day, they charged nearly double the estimate! They claimed it was due to extra boxes, but isn't that why they did an estimate in the first place? They also charged over a grand for shrink wrap without any heads-up. And get this, they labeled prepping my sofa for the truck as "custom packing" and then took off before finishing the job. My husband and I had to scramble to rent a storage unit for what they left behind. When I reached out, the person who called hadn’t even read my email. Total nightmare.

Adding to Ashley's review, her husband here. We had a nightmare experience with American Van Lines. They promised a crew the day before my flight, but when they arrived, they got canceled on the spot. After endless calls back and forth, we were told the truck needed to arrive first. Initially, they said December 14th, then pushed it to the 19th. Our old apartment lease ended on the 15th. We had to spend extra money we don't have on another company to move our stuff into storage. The whole situation has been incredibly stressful and their customer service was a joke. Trust me, their recorded promises are all lies. Absolute worst experience ever.

Fast forward to July 7, and we're still waiting for our belongings. Turns out, they stashed everything in storage without telling us, and now it’s a nightmare trying to get them delivered. They keep missing the promised delivery dates, and good luck trying to reach anyone for an update—calls and messages go unanswered. I had a really rough experience with American Van Lines. They were supposed to pick up my stuff on a confirmed date, but they just didn’t show up. No calls, no messages—nothing. I was left scrambling to find another moving company that could handle the job that same day. The whole ordeal was super stressful because it could’ve messed up my home sale, and I had to move out as scheduled. They did return my deposit and offered me $200, which didn’t even come close to covering the extra $11,000 I had to spend. Not a single apology, just a lame excuse that my driver and truck were sent somewhere else. Overall, it was a nightmare.

I used American Van Lines for my move from Texas to Michigan, and it was a mess. They were late with my delivery, and then it just never showed up. After I complained, they said they'd look into compensation. Weeks went by without a word. When they finally called, I was at work and missed it. Tried calling back, but the extension didn’t work. Man, dealing with customer service was a real nightmare. After countless emails and waiting over a week to hear back, I finally got this email from Theresa Collie at American Van Lines. It felt like a punch in the gut, honestly. She offered me $350 as compensation but only if I updated or removed my Trustpilot review and signed some acknowledgement form. I mean, it's like they're trying to buy my silence. I'm not okay with that. I just wanted my issue resolved properly without jumping through hoops.
