They really value their interns
Pros
They really value their interns: very friendly and supportive, they offer good tips, no running errands, no micromanagement, etc.
Engaging tasks: set up editorial calendars, helped with press releases, contacted various people for event appearances (I spoke to Matisyahu's manager and NFL players' agents, among others), general admin help, did research, learned Cision basics, and much more.
Excellent start to what you might do in an entry level job, even throughout your career. I interned here 2 years ago and it's still on my resume. It looks impressive! I get asked about it in nearly every interview. (Tip: tweak it a bit and adjust your experience for the job you're applying to.)
Real hands-on experience, a great addition to your resume, and a solid reference. They’ve been very responsive every time I reached out. I contacted them last week after 2 years, and they replied the same day.
Professional environment with a creative vibe, from the office design to their client approach. Working here exposes you to various types of creative marketing.
There’s more, but it's been so long I can't remember!
Cons
Unpaid, but that’s expected. It’s short-term and a few days a week, and that’s the norm now. Experience, a resume boost, and a reference are worth more than 100 bucks a week. Just accept it. I drove 45 minutes back and forth, bro (just kidding, I don't speak like that).
It’s not exactly cold. It’s quiet with limited interaction, which is good, but that’s because everyone is extremely busy with much more important tasks than what the intern is doing. They don’t mind if you put in your ear buds and (silently) enjoy some music!
