Don't buy your aligners from Smileie
Don’t get your aligners from Smileie. I regret my purchase with every fiber of my being. They might seem okay if your teeth and jaw are in perfect shape and you need a simple alignment, and if you can overlook their weird dentists who shout at you during imprint sessions, aren’t allowed to disclose they’re located in Pakistan, and offer customer service that’s straight out of a script—well, that's where their reliability stops.
Here’s my cautionary tale.
As a layperson, I didn’t know that x-rays are a basic and crucial step before starting any treatment involving teeth movement in any developed country. X-rays reveal hidden issues like periodontal disease and bone loss—issues you’d never know you have until it’s too late. Aligners on teeth with bone loss can make things much worse and even lead to tooth loss.
Smileie’s intake form just asks if you have bone loss or gum disease but doesn’t require a pre-treatment x-ray. Not knowing I had these problems (since I had no symptoms and my general dentist couldn’t have diagnosed them), I answered “no” on the form and moved forward with the treatment.
A few weeks in, feeling uneasy, I sought a second opinion from a real orthodontist. An x-ray uncovered extensive bone loss and gum disease—surprise!—despite zero symptoms like bleeding gums or pain. I was told to stop the Smileie treatment immediately, as it was endangering my teeth, and was referred for pricey periodontal treatment, which I’m still dealing with months later.
The same day, I requested a refund from Smileie. Even though their policy says no refunds once treatment is sent, they agreed to review my case. Two months later, they approved my refund. Since then, they’ve told me three times that the payment was “on its way” or “should arrive within 2-3 business days,” but I’ve seen nothing.
My advisor has vanished, and now, four months later, I’m still being told to “be patient” by a faceless email address, automatically repeating the same e-mail in a loop, asking for my patience. I’ve been more than patient, and despite never writing negative reviews, their last empty promise was my final straw. It’s like they use delay tactics as their primary business strategy to mask their complete disorganization.
tl;dr: Smileie is unprofessional, disorganized, and utterly unreliable. They’ll happily take your money and give you a litany of empty promises about how “you’ll love your aligners! you’ll love your smile! our aligners are perfectly safe! you can meet with your dentist anytime!” But if problems arise, even if they do approve a refund, they’ll just feed you excuses and keep you waiting forever.
Save yourself the hassle and find a provider that actually knows what they’re doing.
