This move was definitely one of the most complex I've ever experienced. Moving into a four-bedroom house is no small task, and so many things can go wrong along the way. However, this turned out to be the smoothest, most straightforward, and least stressful move I've ever had. Ralph, the owner of Octomovers, came to my house and did a detailed survey before the move. He gave me the option of a flat rate or hourly charge, and suggested that the hourly rate would work better if I packed some things myself. He was absolutely right. He dropped off plenty of boxes for us to start the packing, which ended up saving us at least $500-$1000 on labor costs. The four-person crew that showed up were true pros; they worked hard all day while staying polite and respectful. They knew when to chat with me for a little break, but quickly returned to being polite when it was over. Rodney, the foreman from Octomovers, is a real pro. With years of experience, he treats his job with pride. Throughout the move, he provided instructions, tips, and even some wisdom for the crew (Washington, Rock, and Javier), all of whom were really experienced too. He’s a great teacher. Instead of just packing everything and charging me for boxes like most companies would, Rodney suggested (and I agreed) that Octomovers would pack most things in big commercial bins, which they could take back once the move was done, so I wouldn't get charged for the materials. The destination wasn’t far, so it was a safe choice. Everything arrived in perfect condition. Even our most prized item, our Steinway upright piano, was handled with so much care. The final cost was a pleasant surprise—much lower than I’d expected. I couldn't be more thankful. Now I’m just waiting for someone to ask if I can recommend a moving company. Oh, I sure can!
