    This was my main choice for app-based language

    This was my main choice for app-based language learning some time ago, and it was way better than Duolingo for the reason you mentioned: it provides explanations. However, one thing I found lacking was the variety of activities. It mainly focused on listening and reading tasks, and if I remember right, there weren’t any writing or other input options, which made practicing output quite limited. Nevertheless, as a piece of a larger study plan, it works well (at least, it did when I used it a few years ago; I’m not sure if they’ve made any changes since then).

    Mango Languages appears tempting, but I wouldn't suggest it for language learning. Some content like videos may interest you, yet overall, better options exist. Start with Duolingo for free or Rosetta Stone for paid programs, recommended by PCMag.
